Better GM: Baalke, Sabean or Meyers?

 Image

Is Bob Meyers the best GM in Bay Area sports right now?

Trent Baalke, Brian Sabean or Bob Meyers. Who’s the better GM?

Since taking over for Scott McCloughan as 49ers GM in 2011, Trent Baalke has done an excellent job building the 49ers to the team that they are today. In just his first two years, He’s taken the 49ers to two NFC Championships and a Super Bowl. Incredible. In his first two NFL Drafts, He’s drafted players such as: Collin Kaepernick, Aldon Smith, Chris Culliver, Kendall Hunter, A.J. Jenkins and much more.Trent Baalke has turned the San Francisco 49ers from pretenders to contenders in such a short amount of time and has made them a team to be reckon with for the next decade.

Since becoming the San Francisco Giants GM in 1997, Brian Sabean has done a horrible job as the team’s genereal manager. Just kidding. Well, just a little (Barry Zito’s lucrative contract still haunts me). Sabes has done a great job with the team, especially in these past two years. In 2010, He patched up a team full of “Misfits” who ended up winning the World Series by adding the likes of Cody Ross, Pat Burrell, Aubrey Huff, etc. In 2012, he traded for Marco Scutaro, who played a crucial role in the Giants journey to winning their second championship in three years. Let’s not forget the players hes drafted too. Matt Cain, Timmy, Sandoval, Buster, Brian Wilson and the list goes on and on. Without Sabean, the San Francisco Giants wouldn’t be the team that they are today. 2-time World Series Champions.

Even though it’s just his first year as Warriors GM, you can’t deny the fact that ever since Bob Meyers took the position, the Warriors have been a much different team compared to the previous seasons. Taking over for Larry Riley as GM , Meyers and the Warriors are currently the 6th best team in the Western Conference with a record of 33-25 and looking to clinch a playoff berth. By drafting a promising, young stud In Harrison Barnes, paired with a core of Curry, DLEE, and Klay and hopefully a healthy Bogut, Bob Myers has the Warriors on the right track to them being relevant again for years to come.

So my question is simple, between Trent Baalke, Brian Sabean and Bob Myers, who is the better GM?

49ers: The ‘Kingpins’ of the 2013 NFL Draft | Ed Reed a 49er?

Image

Now that the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to trade for Alex Smith(farewell Alex!), the 49ers now have a total of 15 picks in this year’s NFL Draft.

15 PICKS. *picks up jaw off the floor*

With that many picks, 49ers GM Trent Balke and Jim Harbaugh can pretty much do anything they want in the draft. I guess it’s safe to say that the 49ers won’t be using all 15 picks because of obvious reasons (salary cap, roster spots, etc). I think what the 49ers will probably end up doing is using the first few picks to draft needs (DB, S, DT, QB, WR) and packaging the others to either trade up to get someone they really like or even packaging picks for other teams to move up to get their “man” while stacking up picks for future drafts. The possibilities are endless for the 49ers. We shall see what happens come April 25th.

Maybe having alot of draft picks will help the 49ers acquire Percy Harvin or Darrelle Revis?

It seem’s like draft picks will be what it takes to land either of those guys. Who knows? Hopefully the 49ers can work something out with the two players respective teams and make a deal soon. I wouldn’t mind having either of them wearing the Red & Gold next season. Both fill HUGE needs for the 49ers.

“IN HAR-BALKE WE TRUST”

ED REED IN A 49ERS UNIFORM NEXT YEAR?

It could happen. Matter of fact, it could really happen. It all depends on what the 49ers do with Dashon Goldson. If the 49ers don’t give him the contract Dashon feels he deserves or don’t place the “tag” on him, I won’t be suprised if the 49ers try to persuade Ed Reed to come play for the Red & Gold, being that he’s a free agent and all. And trust me, with the kind of defense the 49ers already have, it won’t be that difficult.

Screw New England, come to the bay Ed Reed!

49ers Free Agents: Who Stays And Who Goes?

Image

Who will be back for the Red & Gold next year?

You want to know who I think will stay and who will go this offseason for the 49ers? Before I do tell, let’s take a look at the list of 49ers free agents this year shall we.

Free Agents: Leonard Davis – Ted Ginn Jr. – WR Tavares Gooden – LB Larry Grant – LB Clark Haggans – LB Ricky Jean-Francois – DL Randy Moss – WR Issac Sopoaga – DL Delanie Walker – TE Dashon Goldson* – S

Who stays?

In my honest opinion, I can only see the 49ers bringing back  two guys. The two guys are only… *drumroll*

Tavares Gooden and maybe Ricky Jean-Francois.

“T-Good” had a solid year playing special teams for the 49ers. It always seemed to me that he was constantly one of the guys making the plays during special teams, he and CJ Spillman.

So far, He has show that he’s a really a good, solid special teams guy. As far as being a NFL Linebacker, who knows. Therefore, I believe he’s stays only because of the impact he makes on special teams.

Plus, I get a kick out of his “Fashion Friday” outfits on Vernon Davis’s instagram.

Ricky Jean to me is a toss up. If the 49ers decide they want to bring Ricky back, I can see him starting in place of Issac Sopoaga, who I think isn’t going to back.

Ricky played solid when he was called upon, especially during the stretch where Justin Smith was out with an elbow injury. But if the 49ers decide not to bring back Francois, it is rumored that numerous teams will be going after him. I don’t know why but I think it’s because they all saw his “Peanut Butter Jelly Time” video. Maybe.

Who goes?

Everyone not named Tavares Gooden or Ricky Jean-Francois of course!

Ted Ginn is an obvious goner to me. 49ers basically gave him that 1-year contract to see if he can offer anything in the return game for them. Well, it turned out, Ginn gave the them absolutely nothing.

I don’t know if anyone else noticed, but every time he return kickoffs or punts, Ginn avoided running up the middle and instead would run to the sidelines. Where is his heart at? It’s seemed to me that he was afraid to get hit and get hurt  again or something.

Look for LaMichael James Or Kyle Williams to take his place next year when it comes to kick and punt returns.

Plus, I don’t see where Ginn will be needed next season once guys like Mario Manningham and Kyle Williams return back from their devastating season-ending injuries.I still think the 49ers need another receiver!

Randy Moss is someone who I really can’t see coming back next year at all. Moss had an “OK” year for the 49ers. Moss had his moments here and there with the team. It was fairly obvious that Jim Harbaugh used him more as a decoy rather than that “deep-threat” receiver 49ers fans thought he was to be. Maybe AJ Jenkins can be that guy next year? Who knows.

What’s up with the 49ers and Dashon Goldson? Dashon had a great year pro-bowl type year and still, the 49ers aren’t sure if they want to pay him the big contract he’s  been long overdue.

Now, it’s being reported that, “‘the 49ers and Goldson are not believed to be close on a long-term deal.” WHAT THE?

On top of that, it’s been rumored that the 49ers are planning on NOT putting the franchise tag on him also. The cost to tag  Goldson this year will be about $7.45 Million, I don’t the 49ers and certainly not Dashon Goldson, want to go that rout.

It’s looking like the 49ers are just going to let “The Hawk” walk and will most likely look into the draft to replace him.

Last but not least, Delanie Walker. After watching the Super Bowl, I can’t tell who’s hands are made out of stone more, his or Adonal Foyle’s? Jeez! So many drop passes this year for him.

I’ll admit, Delanie is one heck of a freakish athlete and was one of my favorites to root for on the team, but at the end of the day, I see Delanie’s time with the 49ers being up.

Look for the 49ers to replace Delanie with maybe Stanford’s own, Zach Ertz. That’s if  he’s still available on draft day. Ertz will thrive under Roman’s system and he was actually recruited by Jim Harbaugh. Guy can straight up BALL!

Well, there you have it. I hope you enjoyed my take on the 49ers free agents for 2013.

The only thing we can do now is just wait and see.

Plain & simple: Are the Warriors better off without Bogut?

Image

Title says it all.

When Bogut plays, Warriors lose. When Bogut doesn’t play, Warriors win. Simple. Therefore, are the Warriors better off just shutting down Bogut for the rest of the season hoping he can some how get back to somewhat 100% and then maybe, just maybe, trade him during the summer?

What do you think?

Yea, Bogut “when” healthy is a top-5 center in the league. Yea, Bogut gives us size down low. Yea, Bogut is a great passer for a big man. Yea, Bogut makes the team better. Yea Yea Yea. But what good is he if he can’t even stay healthy?

An MRI exam revealed that Bogut’s back spasms was actually caused by a protruding disk. Uh-oh. That’s not good. Correct me if i’m wrong, but isn’t that the same injury Dwight “The Diva” Howard had last year which forced him into getting back surgery in the off-season? This just doesn’t sound good Warrior fans. Not to pour even more salt into our wounds, but this recently discovered back injury on top of a healing ankle , has ” potential disaster” written all over it.

In all honesty, I think Bogut will never return to being fully 100%. Nope. Not with his body frame and certainly not with his history of injuries.

So, Warrior fans, what do you think? What should the Warriors do with Bogut? Would you rather want him to continue to play this season or wisely, shut him down and call it a day for him?

“This, is Warriors Ground”

The curious case, that is Brian Wilson

Image Where are thou, Mr. Wilson?

This is going to sound weird but I woke up this morning thinking about Brian Wilson *pause*. No, not in that way, but just wondering what exactly is going on with our former World Series hero.

Brian Sabean, San Francisco Giants GM, has already made it clear that Brian Wilson will NOT be returning for his 8th year with the black and orange. If you are a REAL Giants fan, you would agree with Sabean’s decision and move on.

If the Giants tendered Wilson’s contract last December, he was due to make $6.8 Million in his final year of arbitration. Well, they didn’t. Instead, The Giants offered him an incentive-based contract worth around $2.0 million or so.

Wilson declined and now the bay area’s favorite bearded guy, since Baron Davis left, is now a free agent.

You don’t give a person who is  coming off his second Tommy John surgery (reconstructed a torn ligament he had in his right elbow) that kind of money. You just don’t do something like that.

What the Giants offered Wilson made ALOT of sense for both sides in the negotiations. But sadly, it just isn’t enough for Wilson and his shoe-polished beard to stay in the city by the bay. *sad face*

Hopefully, the Giants and Brian Wilson can reach an agreement soon. It’s safe to say that Romo is now our closer for the next few years but imagine if Wilson decides to come back afterall. Can you imagine him setting up for Romo in the 8th? With Wilson’s fastball in the 8th and then countering that with Romo’s slider in the 9th makes a scary 1-2 punch. Nasty.

Wilson needs to realize that his heart BELONGS here. In The bay area. In San Francisco. With the San Francisco Giants.

P.S. if you decide not to come back, just don’t join the Dodgers. Please?
