Is the Bay Area the best “Sports Town” right now ?

Image“Who’s got it better than us?”

As of today, of course.

Move over, Boston. Move over, LA. As of today, the Bay Area is without a doubt, thee best “Sports Town” of them all!

Within the past few years, is it safe to say that Bay Area sports teams (MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, NCAA, etc) are the best, if not thee best, in their respective sport?

The San Francisco Giants have won the World Series twice in three years and is currently in 1st place in the NL West.

The Oakland A’s went all the way to the ALCS last year and aside from being swept by the Cleveland Indians just recently, it sure looks like they’ll be back there again. (Shout out to Kao!)

With Jim Harbaugh as the coach and Trent Baalke as the GM, the San Francisco 49ers quest to capture their sixth Super Bowl title will now happen sooner rather than later. The 49ers, who have been to the NFC Championship Game two years in a row now, came less than 5 yards short of winning Super Bowl XLVII.

And what can I say about the Golden State Warriors? With the recent success this team has been having, The Bay Area is most def back on the NBA map! With all the young stars on the team led by Stephen Curry, the Warriors are a team to be reckoned with for the next five or so years. The Warriors are back!

I’m not a big fan of Hockey, but what I do know is that, the San Jose Sharks have been constantly in the Playoffs. It’s just a matter of time before they win the cup. Things are looking good for them so far in the Playoffs right now.

And the Oakland Raiders? Well, they’re the Oakland Raiders. But hey, they can’t go anywhere else but up right?

Lastly, I can’t forget to mention Stanford’s football program who recently won the Rose Bowl. Jim Harbaugh and now, David Shaw, has completely turn that football program around for the better. The future is bright for their football program and now we can all agree that College football in the Bay Area, is relevant once again.

Ahhh…It feels so damn good to be from the Bay!

49ERS: Is the 49ers Defense just “decent” ?

Image

Are they still the best defensive team in the league?

49ers Faithful, are you concerned about your team’s Defensive unit coming into this season?

Would you agree that the team’s defense from last year is not as dominating and terrifying as it has been in the previous seasons?

I mean, just look at how the defense performed throughout the postseason. Aside from the Linebacker positions, every other position on this side of the ball was horrible. Especially the secondary unit.

Could this be a sign of the 49ers defense on decline? Is their defense just decent now?

From what I can recall, this Defense has been looking a little suspect since  the Week 15 game against the New England Patriots.

And with guys such as Goldson, Sopoaga and Francois gone now, who knows how this defense will be this season. Do the 49ers have the guys to replace them? Is Glenn Dorsey as good as Isaac was when it came to plugging up the middle and stopping the run? Can the rookie from LSU make the same impact as Dashon did?

I’m only being real here. Hopefully, when the 2013 season is finally here, the 49ers will prove to me that these evil assumptions of mines are all wrong.

My motive on typing this piece up is simply because of  Seattle’s Defense. Let me tell you something, the Defense they have right now, is looking more and more scarier by the day.

49ERS: Kenny Vaccaro or Bust!

Image

This is it 49ers Faithful, It’s draft week! With  just only 4 days left until the draft begins, I can only imagine how hectic things are starting to get for the 49ers brass at 4949 Centennial Blvd.

You guys already know who’s #1 on my draft board.  That man is Kenny Vaccaro, Safety out of Texas.

With several of other teams rumored to be going after Vaccaro, The 49ers most likely would have to trade up to get Vaccaro. Although, that shouldn’t be a problem for a team with 33478 picks to play with in this year’s draft. Kingpins, baby!

With the recent departure of Dashon Goldson, I feel that it’s actually the Safety position that needs to be addressed the most for the 49ers.

There is no words to describe how much Dashon meant to the 49ers Defense. He’s one of the prime reasons why the 49ers Defense has been so elite the past few years. It’s hard to replace a guy like him.

I just can’t see Craig Dahl or CJ Spillman being that guy. As well as the other Safeties on the team such as Trenton Robinson, Darcel McBath and Michael Thomas. I just haven’t seen enough from them to make me think otherwise.

The successor to Dashon has to be someone who can impact the game this side of the ball like how Goldson did.

Standing at 6′ ft tall and weighing about 215 lbs, I’m positively sure Kenny Vaccaro can potentially be that guy.

PROS:

– Great speed, agility & balance          – Excellent football IQ

– Outstanding run defender                 – “Fysical with an F”

– Terrific open-field tackler                   – Great size & athleticism

CONS:

– Over-aggressive at times

– Lack of “ball-hawking” skills

– Temper issues

Taylor Mays got nothing on him..let’s make it happen, Baalke!

49ERS: And with the 31st pick of the 2013 NFL Draft, the 49ers select…

Imagewho’s name will be called with the 31st pick?

Don’t look now Faithful, but the draft is just 8 days away!

Their is no doubt that the San Francisco 49ers have an abundant amount of needs for their team that need to be filled. With the 49ers having 14 or so picks in this years draft, they can quickly fix all that.

IMO, the greatest needs for the 49ers are DL, TE, S, and maybe even QB. No offense to the offensive guys in this year’s draft (see what I did there?), but in the first couple rounds, it’s the defensive players teams will be rapidly going after.

Look for the 49ers to aggressively go after guys such as, Jonathan Cyrpien, Safety out of Florida State, Kenny Vaccaro, Safety out of Texas, Eric Reed, Safety out of LSU, Sharrif Floyd, DT out of Florida, and of course, Zach Ertz, Tight End out of Stanford.

But then again, Trent Baalke is the 49ers GM and who knows which college players he’s scouted this year. Will Baalke draft another Aldon Smith? Or, will he draft another A.J. Jenkins. We shall see.

Also, I highly suspect the 49ers will package a few of their picks to move up in the draft so they can nab their “guy”.

IN BAALKE WE TRUST.

49ERS: Nnamdi is back in the Bay…is Charles Woodson next?

Imagewhat happen to the interests with this guy?

If you haven’t heard already, The 49ers and Nnamdi Asomugha have agreed to terms to a 1-year deal worth $1.35 million rupees with incentives worth up to $3 million rupees.

In simple terms, the 49ers get a year of Nnamdi for basically for free. In regards to the type of production they’ll get from him? Well, that  is yet to be determined.

Financially, this hardly affects the 49ers. Therefore, this is not a shabby deal done by Baalke and Harbaugh. “In Har-Baalke we trust.”

Nnamdi struggled mightily playing in the zone-style type defense with the Eagles these last couple years.  Now that he’ll be utilize under Vic Fangio’s system, a system that plays operates ‘man’ coverage the majority of the time and a system that Nnamdi excels in, hopefully he can turn back the clock and return to form as a shutdown corner back. Just like how he was when he played for Oakland.

Is Charles Woodson next to sign with the 49ers?

A huge part of me hopes so, but I highly doubt it after the signing of Asomugha. Having Woodson as Goldson’s replacement would be any 49ers faithful dream situation, but as free agency continues to linger on,  it’s looking less and less likely that it’s not going to happen.

I sure hope i’m wrong though. I mean c’mon, Craig Dahl? Seriously?

But what do I know? Probably as i’m typing this, the 49ers and Charles Woodson are talking right now and figuring out a way to construct a contract that would make Woodson the 49ers new free safety.

Who knows? I know this might sound cliche, but  ” anything can happen.”

49ers: Where Trading For Boldin Is Just The Beginning

ImageI wonder how Culliver feels about this trade?

What a Steal.

A proven, solid veteran wide receiver in Anquan Boldin for a 6th round pick? That’s what you call a robbery! I’m going to be honest, the 49ers trading for Boldin was definitely not on my radar. I honestly didn’t see this coming. I always thought that, if the 49ers were even going to get a WR this off-season, is was going to be someone with speed *cough* Mike Wallace *cough*.

But for me to say that I don’t like this trade would be a lie. I absolutely love this trade for many reasons. Having “Q” on the team will only make the 49ers offense even better. He’s physical, an underrated run blocker and is a huge threat in the Redzone.

But there’s a problem.

With Boldin coming to the 49ers (pending a physical), what does this mean for the future of Mario Manningham with the 49ers? With Crabtree, Boldin, Williams and Jenkins as for sure locks in the WR depth chart and Manningham recovering from a knee injury, I’m thinking the 49ers will probably cut him. Key word: probably. We shall see. But it’s not looking good for Mario.

Overall, I’m very satisfied with this trade. Like I said previously, The 49ers are the “Kingpins” this off-season. They can pretty much do anything they want. Well, not anything, but you get the point.

I expect many more “big name” signings by the 49ers to come pretty soon. Keep it up Baalke!

The Quest for 6 is NOT over.

Should Donte Whitner Get The Axe?

ImageNASTY.

We all know the 49ers are a horrible team when it comes to defending the pass. One of the biggest reasons why this is conclusive: Donte Whitner’s struggles in pass coverage of course. You know, There is a reason why he calls himself “Dante Hitner”, dude can only hit. When it comes to pass coverage, TERR-I-BLE.

And if you want some proof, just watch Super Bowl 47 again. And again. And again and again and again.

So 49ers Faithful, this is what I was thinking. What if, the 49ers cut Whitner, sign Charles Woodson as his replacement (free agent), have Woodson play FS and move Goldson to SS. We all know how good Goldson is when it comes to stopping the run, guy is a stud. So moving him from FS to SS would make a lot of sense.

Yay or Nay?

And If the 49ers decide that they want to use all 839 of their picks in the draft, cutting Whitner frees up $4.1 million in cap space. That gives the 49ers the ability to sign all 839 players they draft.

I’m kidding.

49ers: Say No To Revis

ImageWhat does Revis and Goldson have in common? Nothing.

Remember in one of my previous blog entries I mentioned how the 49ers should try to trade for Darelle Revis this off-season?

Yea…I lied.

After thinking about it over and over, I have come to conclusion, that, the 49ers are actually better off not trying to trade for the island named, “Revis”.

I was so blind. I got so caught up with Revis and his “big name” that I forget to put in perspective the extra baggage that comes with him. We are all familiar with Darelle Revis by now right? Dude was an elite defensive back, if no, the best defensive back in the league prior to his season ending injury last season where he tore his ACL in his left knee.

Check this out…

Cover corners like Revis engage in stressful physical action—even more so than running backs like Adrian Peterson or Jamaal Charles—with the demands of their position forcing them to backpedal and rotate while on the run.

So unless he is a different breed of human like Adrian Peterson, who knows how well Revis will bounce back from his injury. An ACL injury is what every defensive back fears. DB’s who tear up their ACL just never end up the same after. Just ask NFL DB’s: Al Harris, Dominique Foxworth, and New York Giants cornberback, Terrell Thomas. Niether of them has been the same ever since.

So for a man who’s wants $16 million to play next year and is coming off an ACL injury, I think the 49ers faithful should think twice about wanting to trade for him. Instead, the 49ers should be more focus on finding a way to keep Dashon Goldson in a red and gold for a long, long time.

Pass on Revis.
