Who’s Kaepernick’s Back Up?

Image

 Is it this guy?

Now that Alex Smith is apparently on his way out of San Francisco/Santa Clara, who backs up Kaepernick? Well, according to the depth chart, that guy is none other than Scott Tolzien. 49ers faithful, are you okay with having Scott Tolzien as your back up QB next season?

In my opinion, No/Yes. More no than yes actually. Yes because he’s had a whole season to understand the X’s and O’s of Harbaugh and Roman’s systerm blah blah blah and No because, well simply, I just haven’t seen enough from Tolzien to believe that he is worthy of being a #2 quarterback in this league.

So faithful, barring if the 49ers decide not to use a one of their 15937 picks in the draft this year to select a QB, should 49ers take a peek at free agency and see what quarterbacks are looking for work next season?

Yes we all know the list of free agent quarterbacks this year is a very weak one. I know. Just ask the Kansas City Chiefs. But there is a few notables names in there that I think the 49ers should take a look at.

[enter Josh Johnson]

We all know the story about Josh Johnson and Jim Harbaugh by now. So why not bring him back and have him compete for that #2 spot? Every man deserves a second chance right? I mean, he’s already familiar with Harbaugh’s system. He’s experienced, athletic, quick on his feet, and has a cannon of an arm (Sounds alot like Kaepernick huh?),

I was juiced when I found out that the 49ers signed him last year. I always thought he was a perfect fit for Jim Harbaugh’s 49ers. It’s just still weird to me that he couldn’t beat Scott Tolzien for that #3 spot.

There’s a few other notable free agent quarterbacks out there like…like…okay maybe not. But Josh Johnson intrigues me the most.

Hey, David Carr and Troy Smith is available!
